Hot tub inspection in the Fraser Valley

Now that we are in the full swing of summer, hot tubs are getting used more and more—especially in the cool evenings. With this increase in use comes the need to keep your hot tub clean and working properly. In today’s blog post, we are going to go over some summer hot tub cleaning tips.

Clean the Hot Tub Filters Regularly

Filters are essential for keeping your water clear and safe by trapping dirt, oils, and debris. Over time, however, they can become clogged and less effective. Cleaning your filters every month or so ensures proper filtration and prevents water from becoming cloudy.

Remove the filters from your hot tub, rinse them thoroughly with a hose, and if needed, soak them in a filter cleaner solution. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling them. A good cleaning routine will also extend the life of your filters.

Balance the Water Chemistry

Maintaining the right water chemistry is crucial for clean and safe water. Unbalanced pH or sanitizer levels can lead to skin irritation, cloudy water, or even damage to your hot tub’s equipment. So make sure to regularly check this using a test strip or liquid kit.

Wipe Down the Hot Tub Cover

Your hot tub cover not only helps keep debris out but also protects the water’s temperature. However, the cover can collect dirt, oils, and moisture, which can lead to mold or mildew if not cleaned regularly.

Wipe the cover with a damp cloth and mild cleaner to remove dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a vinyl cleaner designed to protect the material.

Remove Debris from the Water

During the summer, leaves, bugs, and other debris can easily end up in your hot tub. Keeping the water clear of this debris not only makes it look better but also ensures the water stays clean and your filters don’t get clogged.

Use a skimmer net or a handheld vacuum to remove floating debris. For added convenience, you can use a floating skimmer or place a cover on the hot tub when it’s not in use.

Check the Jets and Clean Them

Over time, hot tub jets can accumulate oils, lotions, and dirt, which can affect their performance. Cleaning the jets ensures they’re working properly and helps maintain the overall cleanliness of your hot tub.

Turn on the jets, let them run for a few minutes, and then use a soft brush or cloth to clean around them. If there’s significant buildup, use a jet cleaner to run through the system and remove stubborn debris.

Monitor the Water Level

Maintaining the correct water level in your hot tub is essential for optimal performance. Low water levels can cause damage to your pump and heater, while high levels can lead to spills and excess pressure on the equipment.

Check the water level regularly, especially if your hot tub is used frequently, and refill it as necessary. The water level should be just above the skimmer intake.
